I was diagnosed with ADHD at 37 years old.

Systems, processes and routines have become key to helping me stay in control, keeping focused and taking action…theoretically!

But as one of the founding team members of Clicks I've traveled over 100,000 miles in 2024 to help start and grow the business; not great when it comes to maintaining routines!

Luckily, using Clicks Mode together with Apple Shortcuts gives me access to the people, information and actions I take most often, no matter where I am in the world.

Here's a look at exactly how I've set up my Clicks Keyboard shortcuts to give me an edge:

My World

There are a handful of people that I'm chatting with countless times a day, every day around the world.

I'm using WhatsApp to call our CEO Adrian in the UK to talk about fundraising. Then, I'm FaceTiming our President, Kevin, to review marketing assets. Many afternoons I'm calling Michael Fisher (aka TheMrMmobile) over Telegram to talk about product strategy (and Star Trek).

My globe key is set up to start those calls when coupled with the initial corresponding to their name – without having to stop and think about which platform I talk to each of those people on.

I've also got my wife (Liz) mapped to the 'L' and mom mapped to the 'M' so I can check in, especially if I'm on the road.

Clicks Actions

Throughout the day there are a handful of actions I find myself doing time and time again. If I'm able to reduce the friction to tackle them, my neurodivergent brain is more likely to get it done. By building shortcuts around these tasks and mapping them to a button on the Clicks Keyboard, I can save time, take control, and put the info I need at my fingertips.

Clicks + D: Directions to Next Meeting

I find myself traveling a lot these days with a packed calendar of meetings with the team, retail partners and investors. Clicks + D looks at the next meeting on my calendar and pulls up the directions/traffic in the Maps App to help me stay on schedule.

Clicks + S: Shazam

I'm a big user of Shazam to ID tracks. But I always found myself missing the song while I fumble to open the app and start listening. Now I'm able to launch Shazem and start listening to the song right from the lock screen with a key press.

Clicks + W: Wake Up

My wife and I have dance parties in the morning when we wake up to get our day off to a good start. Clicks + W, opens Apple Music and starts playing my morning playlist on our Sonos speaker system before I even get out of bed.

Clicks + V: Voice Note

I have some of my best creative ideas while I'm walking my dogs. Clicks + V instantly starts recording a new voice note so I can get those ideas out of my head before they escape me.

Clicks + Z : Zoom

I have a dedicated Zoom room for our leadership meetings and marketing syncs, but I always found it a pain going into the Apple Note I had pinned with my Zoom meeting ID details let alone copying/pasting the meeting password (especially if I'm joining from the back of an Uber or an airport). Now I can open Zoom and join that Meeting ID with one button press so I'm always punctual and ready to go.

I've got other shortcuts set up to control smart lights, unlock the door at my shared work space and give the people attending the next meeting on my calendar a live ETA, but we'll save those for another post.

My ADHD brain might work a little differently, but with the way I've set up my Clicks Keyboard as a remote control for the things I do most often, I can save a ton of mental overhead and spend more time focusing on the things that bring me joy and create value.
